Herts Senior League - 1st February
Verulam Swimming Club's older swimmers showed strength in depth when they competed in Hertfordshire Senior League recently. It was a good turn out and eight teams competed inspite of the weather. And even though we didn't have any wins in the individual events, the team finished in the runners up spot.
There were some very close results with second places for Ryan Rawson and Alison Gardiner in butterfly, Catherine Howe in backstroke and Linda Wheable in breaststroke; while Ryan was joined by Paul Chapman, Andy Cummins and Jon Stacey to take silver in the freestyle relay. There was a new line up in the men's 35+ squad of Paul Webb, Tony Welch, Jim Sawma, and Alan Gardiner, with some particularly fine swims from Jim and Paul. The ladies 35+ squad included regulars of Chris Pout, Sandra McDonald, Annie Seymour and Janet Gardiner. The best results of the evening came when Vicky Ainsworth joined Alison, Catherine and Linda, to win both the ladies 25+ free and medley relays.
A comendable second place then, can we do better next year?
